Story in Statewide Aviation's newsletter - Plane Talk - available at this link: Plane_Talk_summer2021.pdf (alaska.gov)
Has it been difficult to find a convenient place to practice accurate short field landings in the Anchorage area? The Lake Hood Pilots Association had been thinking so. In June, volunteers painted white short field practice markings on the gravel Goose Bay Airport runway.
We have planned a service project at Goose Bay Airport (Z40) on June 9th to paint marks for short field landing practice similar to the Palmer and Fairbanks gravel strips. DOT and FAA have tentatively approved our plan. We have also received the support of the Alaska Airmen’s Association, which has offered to co-host a work party. This is already an annual project at FAI gravel strip which enjoys widespread support in that community.
